Apple has finally entered the foldable smartphone market, and it has done so with a device that looks very different from the iPhones we have known for years.
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, combining the familiar iOS experience with a much larger screen that opens like a book. Apple says the phone is designed to offer a new way to watch content, play games and work across multiple apps without giving up the convenience of a device that can fit into your pocket.
So, what exactly does the new iPhone Duo bring to the table?
iPhone Duo Display and Design
The most obvious feature is the foldable design.
When closed, the iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display, making it relatively compact for everyday use. Open it up, and the phone transforms into a much larger 7.6-inch display.
Both screens support ProMotion, Always-On functionality and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. Apple has also used a special nano-texture finish on the inner display to reduce glare and make the crease less noticeable.
The result is a phone that can be used normally when closed but becomes something closer to a small tablet when opened.
iPhone Duo Specs
Under the hood, the iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip. The company has also developed a custom thermal system with a vapor chamber and dual-battery architecture to help the device maintain performance while delivering all-day battery life.
The phone comes with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB.
It will be available in two colours: Star White and Night Sky.
Apple has also built the device around a precision hinge and premium materials, with durability being one of the major selling points of the new foldable.
iPhone Duo Camera
Apple is also using the foldable design to introduce new ways of taking photos and recording videos.
The iPhone Duo camera system includes an advanced dual-camera setup, while the folding design allows the phone to be positioned in different ways when taking photos or making video calls.
There is also a new FaceTime camera hidden beneath the inner display, keeping the large screen free from a traditional camera cutout.
This could make the Duo particularly interesting for people who regularly create content, make video calls or take photos without carrying additional equipment.

Software and Multitasking
The hardware is only part of the story.
The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, which Apple has redesigned to take advantage of the larger foldable screen.
One of the biggest changes is multitasking. Users can work with multiple apps on the larger display, making the phone more useful for productivity as well as entertainment.
Apple is also bringing Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features to the device, although availability can vary depending on language and region.
iPhone Duo Price and Release Date
The iPhone Duo price starts at $1,999 in the United States for the 256GB model. Apple will also offer 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options.
Pre-orders begin on October 16, 2026, while the phone will officially become available from October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions.
For buyers in Nigeria and other African markets, the local price will depend on official availability, taxes, exchange rates and retailer pricing.
Is the iPhone Duo Worth It?
The iPhone Duo is clearly aimed at people who want something more than a conventional smartphone.
Its biggest attraction is the combination of a pocket-sized phone and a large 7.6-inch display. That makes it appealing for watching videos, gaming, reading, multitasking and getting more work done on the go.
Of course, the price is a major consideration. At $1,999, the iPhone Duo is considerably more expensive than Apple’s standard iPhone models.
Still, Apple’s entry into the foldable market could change the competition significantly.
After years of Samsung and other Android manufacturers developing foldable phones, Apple is finally bringing its own interpretation of the technology to the iPhone family.
The iPhone Duo is not simply another iPhone with a bigger screen. It represents Apple’s biggest change to the iPhone design in years—and it will be interesting to see how consumers respond when it reaches stores.
