Samsung Galaxy S24 FE: Near-flagship Galaxy experience with a few compromises
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE brings many of the features associated with Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series to a more accessible price point. It combines the Exynos 2400e chipset, a 6.7-inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, a versatile triple-camera system and a 4,700mAh battery with Samsung’s long-term software support and Galaxy AI features.
It isn’t perfect. The 25W wired charging is relatively slow, and the phone’s 213g weight makes it noticeably heavier than some competitors. But taken as a whole, the S24 FE offers a strong balance of performance, display quality, cameras, software and durability.
Design and Build
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE feels more premium than its price positioning might suggest. It combines a glass back with an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection and IP68 water and dust resistance.
At 213g, however, it isn’t a particularly lightweight phone. The 6.7-inch display also makes the device feel fairly substantial in the hand.
Display
The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is one of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE’s strongest features. Its 120Hz adaptive refresh rate makes scrolling and animations feel smooth, while the AMOLED panel delivers deep blacks, strong contrast and vibrant colours.
Samsung’s Vision Booster also helps improve visibility in bright outdoor conditions.
Performance
The Exynos 2400e and 8GB of RAM on the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE provide strong everyday performance. Apps open quickly, multitasking is smooth and demanding games are generally playable without major problems.
Independent testing has placed the phone comfortably within flagship-class performance, although it does not quite match the performance of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered Galaxy S24-series models.
Camera
Samsung equips the S24 FE with a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
The dedicated telephoto camera is particularly useful for portraits and distant subjects, while Samsung’s image processing and ProVisual Engine help improve results in challenging lighting.
Battery Life
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE packs a 4,700mAh battery which provides good everyday endurance. For many users, a full day of normal use should be achievable, although heavier gaming, high brightness and demanding network conditions can reduce endurance considerably.
Gaming
The Exynos 2400e and Xclipse 940 GPU provide enough power for demanding games. High-end titles can run smoothly, although sustained performance can fall behind more powerful Snapdragon-based flagships.
The phone also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing in supported games.
Software & Galaxy AI
Software support is one of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE’s major strengths. The phone launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 and is promised seven years of operating-system and security updates.
It also includes Samsung’s Galaxy AI features, including Circle to Search and AI-powered photo-editing tools.
Charging
The biggest weakness here is the 25W wired charging speed. Compared with phones supporting significantly faster charging, Samsung Galaxy S24 FE takes longer to replenish its battery.
It does support 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare, which add useful flexibility.
Value for Money
The S24 FE delivers many features associated with Samsung’s flagship range without requiring buyers to move all the way up to the company’s most expensive models.
Its combination of display quality, cameras, performance, Galaxy AI, IP68 protection and long software support makes it a well-rounded package. The slower charging and heavier body are the main compromises.
Our verdict
EXCELLENTThe Galaxy S24 FE delivers a premium Samsung experience with a great display, capable cameras, strong performance, and long-term software support—making it a compelling all-rounder for its price. Its slower charging and slightly heavier design are the main compromises to consider.
